Shirisha Vallarapu, PA June Vitiligo Awareness
If you suffer from vitiligo, you may feel inclined to hide discolored patches of skin. Although there is no cure for this condition, Florida Skin Center offers vitiligo treatments that can help guests improve the appearance of their skin and feel more confident. We offer this and other dermatology services to those living in and around Fort Myers, FL.

What is Vitiligo?

Vitiligo is a disease that results in patches of skin losing their color. This happens because the pigment-producing cells in the skin either stop producing pigments or die off completely. This condition is not harmful to your health, but it can make you self-conscious about the appearance of your skin. Florida Skin Center offers vitiligo treatments to help guests feel more confident and comfortable with their appearance.

How is Vitiligo Treated?

At Florida Skin Center, we use the Excimer laser for vitiligo treatment. This laser offers safer, more convenient, and more effective treatment than other methods of vitiligo treatment. The Excimer laser treatment precisely targets the skin where color loss has occurred and induces repigmentation in the cells. With this technique, we are able to only target the colorless skin, preserving the health of the skin surrounding it. As a result, guests enjoy restored color in their skin with minimal side effects and downtime. For those who experience more widespread symptoms, we may recommend light box therapy. This treatment uses UVB light to trigger repigmentation and reduce vitiligo symptoms.

What Can I Expect from Treatment?

Vitiligo treatment with the Excimer laser is comfortable and no anesthesia is required. Using a dedicated handpiece, the laser energy is carefully applied to the targeted areas. As the handpiece starts up, it will emit a light and you may feel a warming sensation. This feeling is typically mild and only lasts a few minutes. The treatment is very short and usually only lasts a few minutes, unless numerous areas are being treated. Those undergoing light box therapy will stand surrounded by UVB light boxes, which will emit painless light waves to treat the skin. In some cases, guests experience mild redness after treatment, although this typically fades within a few hours.

When Will I Notice Results from Vitiligo Treatment?

Repigmentation is a slow process that can take several treatments and gradually improves over time. We find that a minimum of about six treatments is required for results to become visible, and guests typically notice the full effects of treatment after approximately 15-30 sessions.

How Much Does it Cost to Treat Vitiligo?

In order to determine the exact cost of your treatment, we invite guests to schedule an appointment so that we can develop a personalized treatment plan that will satisfy both your health and cosmetic goals. Once a treatment plan is determined, we will be able to provide a clear breakdown of costs. To make our services accessible to those who need them, we offer flexible financing and payment options. We also accept insurance when applicable.
