Squamous Cell Carcinoma Treatment in Fort Myers, FL

Squamous cell carcinoma is one of several forms of skin cancer, which is both common and easily cured if detected early. Florida Skin Center offers advanced skin cancer treatments in the Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres, and Fort Myers, Punta Gorda offices to the men and women living in Southwest FL.

What is Squamous Cell Carcinoma?

Squamous cell carcinoma is a common type of skin cancer that affects the outermost layers of the skin. It usually has a red, scaly appearance, and may be slightly elevated from the skin’s surface. This typically develops as a result of sun exposure, which can damage the skin cells and cause cancerous mutations. Luckily, squamous cell carcinoma can be easily cured if detected early. We encourage guests to receive annual cancer screenings to ensure early detection of skin cancer.

How is Squamous Cell Carcinoma Treated?

Florida Skin Center uses BLU-U® blue light photodynamic therapy for the treatment of squamous cell carcinoma. This technique uses blue light waves to target the damaged skin tissue and destroy it. Although this works for most cases, severe cases of squamous cell carcinoma may require surgical excision. This means that we will surgically remove the cancerous growths and cells, preventing cancer from spreading and effectively curing it.

What Can I Expect from Treatment?

For guests undergoing BLU-U® blue light photodynamic therapy, a topical medication is applied to the skin that will help the skin react to the blue light. Then, the blue light is used to treat the skin, eliminating the targeted cancerous cells. This treatment is quite comfortable and usually takes about an hour. Although we like to avoid surgery when possible, our Punta Gorda facility provides luxurious and comfortable spaces for guests who require surgical excision for squamous cell carcinoma. Guests can enjoy private suites with television, drinks, and attentive care during and after their treatment.

How is Recovery from Squamous Cell Carcinoma Treatment?

Recovery after BLU-U® blue light photodynamic therapy is very brief, as the treatment affects only the targeted skin tissue. Guests may experience dryness of the skin after treatment, but are typically fully recovered within a day or two. When surgical excision is necessary, guests are still able to return home on the same day. However, you may experience some discomfort over the following days. In most cases, there will be a scar remaining after surgery.

How Much Does Squamous Cell Carcinoma Treatment Cost?

In order to determine the exact cost of your treatment, we invite guests to schedule an appointment so that we can develop a personalized treatment plan that will satisfy both your health and cosmetic goals. Once a treatment plan is determined, we will be able to provide a clear breakdown of costs. To make our services accessible to those who need them, we offer flexible financing and payment options. We also accept insurance when applicable.

At Florida Skin Center, we offer a personalized approach to skin cancer treatment that helps us facilitate effective treatments and great results.
