We have provided thousands of free skin checks. Florida Skin Center’s – “Get your skin in the game. Check it!©” – free skin check program provides free skin checks to patients at our Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres and Punta Gorda locations as a way of combatting and raising awareness about skin cancer. As the program grows we have provided over 1,300 free skin checks since the program’s launch in September 2017.
“This initiative is a result of the vision of the entire Florida Skin Center team who worked tirelessly to bring it to fruition,” Dr. Anais Aurora Badia, M.D., D.O., F.A.A.D., said “Skin checks save lives. Now, we are not only sparing our patients a significant expense, but potentially saving them from the fastest growing cancer in the country and reminding those same people that we are the dermatologist to turn to for all skin care needs.” Every skin check provided by Florida Skin Center involves a dermascope, a microscope-like tool that allows doctors and physician assistants alike to inspect lesions for cancerous characteristics. All providers are certified specialists and know what to look for during their thorough examination.
Skin cancer affects an estimated one million Americans every year. If you are looking for cancer screening or skin cancer care, you can find the services you need at Florida Skin Center. We offer skin cancer treatments to men and women living in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Punta Gorda, Lehigh Acres and the surrounding areas of Florida.
What is Skin Cancer?
Skin cancer is the most commonly occurring form of cancer. It is most frequently caused by excessive sun exposure which damages the skin cells and causes mutations. Then, small patches of discoloration will develop on the skin that can appear red and scaly. The two most common types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The third most common type is known as melanoma, which is linked to moles that have new or unusual growth. Skin cancer is fairly easy to spot and can be easily cured when detected early, which is why we encourage all guests to stay active in examining moles and sun damage.
