Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Hidradenitis suppurativa, also known as “HS”, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes red, swollen, and painful bumps, usually in places where the skin rubs together like on the armpits, on or under the breasts, groin, thighs, buttocks, and perianal area. HS presents with nodules and abscesses that can cause pain, bad odor, and may drain pus or blood. The course of this disease is usually recurrent and prolonged, with worsening scarring as disease progresses.

Unfortunately, hidradenitis suppurativa is commonly associated with other comorbid diseases, like obesity, diabetes, depression, and inflammatory bowel disease, among others, for which early screening, diagnosis, and treatment are important. Some of the modalities used in the treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa include topical and oral antibiotics, steroid injections, systemic therapy, and surgical management of the lesions.

At Florida Skin Center, our providers specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa and will be happy to discuss all available medical options for your particular case, as well as, provide counseling on the best strategies you can adopt to improve your condition and quality of life.
