What is Eczema?

Eczema is a skin condition characterized by the inflammation of the skin, which may include itchiness and bleeding. The most common symptom of eczema is a rash that appears behind the knees and on the arms. In some cases, eczema only arises as a reaction to irritants such as soaps, lotions, and other items. If you are noticing eczema symptoms, you may want to consider changing these products to determine the source of irritation. If this doesn’t help, we offer eczema treatments to give patients freedom from this condition.

What is Atopic Dermatitis?

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic form of eczema that typically begins during childhood. Those who have atopic dermatitis may have extremely sensitive skin and may be prone to eczema breakouts. Most people who develop this condition inherit a predisposition to eczema.

What is Contact Dermatitis?

Contact dermatitis is a form of eczema that develops in reaction to skin irritation. This can be from wearing jewelry such as watches and bracelets, but can also be due to beauty products such as makeup, lotions, and soaps. Usually, the best solution is to cease use of the product or item that causes irritation. If this condition worsens, we offer treatments to help minimize symptoms and discomfort.

How is Eczema Treated?

At Florida Skin Center, we use the Excimer laser and light box therapy for eczema treatment. The Excimer laser is best suited for smaller affected areas, offering safer and more effective treatment than alternative methods. With this technique, we are able to only target the affected skin, preserving the health of the skin surrounding it. For those experiencing more widespread symptoms, we may recommend light box therapy. This treatment uses UVB light to gently and safely treat larger areas of eczema.

What Can I Expect from Treatment?

Treatment with the Excimer laser is comfortable and no anesthesia is required. Using a dedicated hand piece, the laser energy is carefully applied to the targeted areas. As the hand piece starts up, it will emit a light and you may feel a warming sensation. This feeling is typically mild and goes away quickly. The treatment is very short and usually only lasts a few minutes, unless numerous areas are being treated. Those undergoing light box therapy to treat larger areas will stand surrounded by UVB light boxes. These light boxes will emit painless light waves to treat the skin. In some cases, guests experience mild redness after treatment, although this typically fades within a few hours.

When Will I Notice Results from Eczema Treatment?

After several sessions, you will begin to notice a reduction in itching and inflammation and less frequent eczema breakouts. Once you begin to notice results, we can reduce treatments to once or twice a month to maintain results. Luckily, there is no downtime required after treatment, and you can resume work and other normal activities immediately following your appointment.

How Much Does Eczema Treatment Cost?

In order to determine the exact cost of your treatment, we invite guests to schedule an appointment so that we can develop a personalized treatment plan that will satisfy both your health and cosmetic goals. Once a treatment plan is determined, we will be able to provide a clear breakdown of costs. To make our services accessible to those who need them, we offer flexible financing and payment options. We also accept insurance when applicable.
