Skin cancer is a serious condition that can be safely diagnosed and cured when it is detected early. To help men and women living in Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, Punta Gorda, and the neighboring areas of Southwest Florida stay one step ahead of skin cancer, our practice offers free skin cancer screenings to all of our guests.
What is Skin Cancer Screening?
A skin cancer screening is a visual examination performed by a qualified dermatology provider. A screening only takes a few minutes to perform. During the screening, your whole body is checked from head to toe. If your concern is with a particular mole that may be cancerous, we will examine the mole and perform a biopsy if needed. Florida Skin Center is one of the nation’s top providers of skin checks, having performed over 700 complimentary screenings and discovering 20 cases of skin cancer so far.
When Should I Pursue a Cancer Screening?
We recommend receiving annual cancer screenings in order to ensure early detection of skin cancer. If it has been longer than 12 months since your last cancer screening, we encourage guests to come in for screening as soon as possible. If you begin to develop any signs of non-melanoma skin cancer or notice new or unusual growth of a mole, you should consider having a cancer screening immediately. Non-melanoma skin cancer can begin as a red, scaly growth. Suspicious moles are moles that have changed in size, color, or shape.
How Much Does a Skin Cancer Screening Cost?
At Florida Skin Center, we offer free skin checks to everyone. This is part of a national campaign to help diagnose skin cancer early and help guests find the treatment they need. We perform skin cancer screenings free of charge, whether guests have insurance or not.
