Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is a chronic inflammatory disease, that presents on the skin with redness, flakes or scales, and small bumps, usually accompanied by intense itching.
Eczema is more common in children than adults, and its appearance may vary, with special corresponding characteristic patterns for babies, children, and adults.
At Florida Skin Center, our providers specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of atopic dermatitis. Diagnosis is usually clinical and can be confirmed by biopsy. Treatment options are diverse, and should be personalized according to each particular case. Most common treatments include topical or systemic steroids, emollients and moisturizers, barrier creams and ointments, phototherapy, antihistamines to control itch, immuno-modulating agents, systemic immuno-suppressants, and monoclonal antibodies.
If you present with some of the symptoms described above or have already been diagnosed with eczema or atopic dermatitis, please contact our offices for an appointment, and we will gladly design a treatment plan to fit your needs, including education about eczema, avoidance of triggering factors, reduction of symptoms, and control of exacerbations.
