Actinic Keratosis in Fort Myers, FL

Actinic keratosis, if left untreated, could develop into skin cancer. To help our guests avoid this risk, we offer treatments for actinic keratosis that safely eliminate the damaged skin and greatly reduce the risk of cancer. We offer these treatments to residents of Punta Gorda, Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres, and Fort Myers, FL.

What is Actinic Keratosis?

Actinic keratosis is a rough, scaly patch of skin that develops as a result of sun exposure. Although it is not skin cancer, it can be precancerous, meaning that it could develop into cancer if left untreated. This usually develops in men and women over the age of 40, and multiple growths often occur.

How is Actinic Keratosis Treated?

At Florida Skin Center, we offer two treatment options for actinic keratosis. One of these is BLU-U® blue light photodynamic therapy, which is offered in our Cape Coral and Fort Myers offices. This treatment uses blue light to safely penetrate the skin and target damaged skin cells. Then, the skin peels off in the days following treatment. We also use cryosurgery for actinic keratosis. With this method, we apply liquid nitrogen to the damaged area to freeze the tissue. Afterward, the skin growth will blister or become crusted and fall off. Prescription medications may also be prescribed in addition to BLU-U® or cryotherapy.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments for actinic keratosis can vary based on the treatment method. For BLU-U® blue light photodynamic therapy, guests typically require 2-3 annual treatments may be necessary to preserve the health of the skin. With cryosurgery, one treatment is generally sufficient for eliminating actinic keratosis; however, this treatment is better for smaller, thinner lesions. For patients that have a history of actinic keratosis, we recommended that your skin is evaluated twice a year.

How Much Does Actinic Keratosis Treatment Cost?

In order to determine the exact cost of your treatment, we invite guests to schedule an appointment so that we can develop a personalized treatment plan that will satisfy both your health and cosmetic goals. Once a treatment plan is determined, we will be able to provide a clear breakdown of costs. To make our services accessible to those who need them, we offer flexible financing and payment options. We also accept insurance when applicable.
