Dr. Badia has been successfully treating Psoriasis patients in the area for the last 8 years. Dr. Badia not only offers a variety of treatments for psoriasis, but is also the only practice in the county to offer narrowband UVB light treatments for patients with psoriasis of all ages, including children.

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin condition that can cause silver scaly plaques to form on the skin, nails and scalp. It affects 2% of the population. Although there is no known cure for psoriasis, this skin condition can be controlled with a combination of medications and light therapy.

Our goal at Florida Skin Center is to offer our patients the most advanced and up to date treatments in Psoriasis. We believe that everyone has unique skin needs and Dr. Badia and her staff will help customize a treatment plan that will benefit you.

Treatments at Florida Skin Center

Topical Treatments: We offer a combination of topical prescriptions creams including topical steroids, dovonex and oxsoralen.

Oral Medications: For patients with severe psoriasis or those who have not responded to other treatments Dr. Badia does prescribe Soriatane, Cyclosporine and Methotrexate.

Biologics: We offer our patients a wide variety of injectable treatments for Psoriasis including Enbrel, Humira and Remicade.

Narrowband UVB Therapy: We offer our patients convenient lightbox therapy including separate lightboxes for the body, hands, feet, and a hand piece for the scalp and stubborn patches. Our lightboxes are safe for children as well as adults.

Excimer Laser

What is the Excimer Laser?

The excimer laser uses narrowband UVB light to treat vitiligo, psoriasis and atopic dermatitis or eczema. It delivers targeted high dose therapeutic light directly to the affected tissue without exposing healthy skin. By targeting only the affected tissue, without exposing healthy skin, the laser delivers high-dose treatment that may promote faster clearing and longer remission than other treatments.

What is this Laser Used for?

This laser treatment is great for treating stubborn psoriasis plaques on the elbows and knees. It is also a great treatment option for eczema or psoriasis of the face and scalp. It is very effective for vitiligo patches on the arms, legs and face especially around the eyes. This treatment can be done in conjunction with the light box treatments. However, one area can not be treated by both the lightbox and the laser on the same day.

How many treatments will I need?

Each condition and patient will vary in the number of treatments needed and the time it will take to reach clearing. Most patients will initially require 2 treatments each week to clear their lesions. It may take 12-15 treatment to improve psoriasis or eczema. Vitiligo generally takes a little longer and may require 15-30 treatments. Most patients will maintain clearance for 6 months and will require touch up treatments as needed.

How many treatments are needed?

Treatments are generally done 2 times per week for several weeks. Improvement will be seen in most patients within 6 weeks but can vary depending on the severity.

What is the cost?

For most patients, the treatment will be covered under their healthcare insurance. Each treatment done in our office is considered an office visit however.
