There are many skin conditions which can affect children including
eczema, warts, molluscum, moles, acne, and fungal infections. We at
Florida Skin Center understand that these chronic conditions can greatly
contribute to how children feel about themselves. Dr. Badia understands
the skin conditions that are unique to children. After thoroughly evaluating
your child's skin and determining a diagnosis, she will provide both
education and appropriate treatment for your child's skin condition.
At Florida Skin Center we see children ranging from newborns to adolescents.
Common Pediatric Skin Conditions
Molluscum Contagiosum — Molluscum contagiosum are part
of the wart family. Generally, their appearance is dome-shaped
with a tiny depression in the center and they can occur anywhere
on the body. These growths are harmless, but are highly contagious
and will spread if left untreated. This condition is very common
in children. Treatment includes liquid nitrogen therapy and topical
medications.
Verruca Vulgaris (Warts) — Warts are a
viral infection, where the skin reacts to form a firm, skin colored
growth. Warts are contagious and can be transferred by direct contact
with an infected person. Warts can occur anywhere on the body and
affect all age groups. Treatment options include topical medication
and liquid nitrogen.
Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema) — Atopic dermatitis is a chronic,
itchy skin condition that is very common in children but may occur
at any age. It is also known as eczema and atopic eczema. The skin
is often dry, scaly and red with small scratch marks. Treatment
includes topical medication and antihistamines.
Acne Vulgaris (Acne) — Acne is a skin condition that affects
children of all ages. It can vary from mild to severe. It is a
disorder of the skin’s oil glands that causes overproduction
of sebum (oil) which leads to plugged pores. Acne that is left
untreated can lead to scarring. Florida Skin Center provides a
wide range of treatment options for patients with acne.
