New Makeup Line at Florida Skin Center

It's finally here! The day you all have been waiting for! Florida Skin Center is now carrying makeup. It took us a while to find a makeup line that would fit nicely with our patients needs. We have chosen Jane Iredale. Like us they feel the most beautiful cosmetic you can wear is healthy skin. Their make up is made to enhance your natural beauty and compliment your skin, not cover it up. You may have seen Jane Iredale mentioned in magazines such as Glamour, In Style, and Allure, just to name a few. They have won several awards and are recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation. Jane Iredale makeup is never formulated with oil, talc, parabens, or fragrance. It is designed to let the skin breathe, so even those with the most sensitive of skin can wear it and feel beautiful all day. Please ask our staff to assist you in matching your skin color today.

Treatment for Psoriasis and Vitiligo

Here at Florida Skin Center, Dr. Badia and her staff strive towards giving our patients the best overall dermatology care we can. Dr. Badia is always looking to add innovative treatments to the practice, so our patients have the latest technology in treatment options for their dermatology conditions.

With that being said, FSC has added a new treatment Laser. Psoriasis and Vitiligo are skin conditions that affect millions of Americans and, often times, can be an embarrassment or burden.

Until now, the mainstay of treatment for these conditions was greasy ointments and creams. The Excimer Treatment for Psoriasis and Vitiligo laser treatments, however, are quick painless treatments that can be done right in the office twice a week. This laser delivers concentrated narrowband UVB therapy to affected skin, while leaving healthy unaffected skin intact.

By targeting only the affected tissue without exposing healthy skin, the laser delivers high-dose treatment that may promote faster clearing and longer remission than other treatments. Each condition and patient may vary in the number of treatments needed but on average, patients see improvement after 15 treatments.

If you would like further information on this innovative new treatment, please feel free to ask any of our staff.

Don't Pop that Pimple!

To pop or not to pop? Pimples have always been a sore subject ever since they've been rearing their ugly heads on our faces. They can hurt to the touch, or they can be just plain old unsightly. Whatever the case, they need to go away. Popping pimples can seem like a quick fix, but there is a risk of scarring that comes with squeezing a pimple prematurely. How bad can it be, you may wonder? Well, let's take a deeper look at just what these risks are:

  1. While the effort is to get what's in a pimple out, you may actually be pushing some of the contents (excess oil, dead skin cells and bacteria) deeper into your pore, or worse, the bacteria, skin and oil can be pushed through the pore and spill deeper into your skin. This can cause a nodule or cyst deep under the surface of the skin.
  2. You run the risk of leaving a mark on your face. Picking can cause injury to the skin which then leads to an overproduction of melanin, leaving you with a dark spot that can take months—if not years—to disappear.
  3. Enlarged pores can also result from picking. These enlarged pores will not return to normal size resulting in what looks like a large hole on your face.
  4. As if tiny oil spills, pesky dark spots and extra holes on our face weren't enough... When the tissue is damaged and collagen is lost, large flat indentations of the skin can be left.

As annoying as acne can be, the results that can be left over from picking can be much more annoying and harder to get rid of. If you feel like you are in need of extractions, please leave it to the professionals. Florida Skin Center's two aestheticians on staff have years of experience in skin care and the extraction process, and we're more than willing to help you make sure your face is clear of any unwanted blemishes, and keep it that way.

Light Moisture for Summer

Humidity during the summer can leave your skin feeling simply awful. Usually someone with oily skin would not dream of putting a moisturizer on before going out in this heat, but no matter how hot and muggy it is out there we still need moisture to combat those fine lines and wrinkles. Florida Skin Center would like to offer you a few excellent choices that will help moisturize your skin without leaving your skin feeling like an oil slick.

SkinMedica's Ultra Sheer Moisturizer is a perfect solution. It is a light oil-free lotion that helps hydrate the skin. It also has vitamin C and E to help prevent free radical damage from the sun.

Also SkinMedica's Hydrating Complex is a unique blend of light hyaluronic acid molecules that help the skin maintain its firmness and elasticity. This product's gel like consistency soaks in quickly leaving it a great option for oily skinned patients.

If you have any questions about this products please feel free to ask our staff.

Out and About

It has been said that practice makes perfect and at Florida Skin Center we must agree. On June 12th we held our third annual Children's Day event, and what a success! For those of you who do not know what this event is, Florida Skin Center opens their doors to treat children free of charge. Every year we have exceeded our expectations and have been able to see more children than the previous year. We would like to say thank you to everyone that came in to see us, and for those who did not make it this year we look forward to seeing you next year.

Florida Skin Center's staff also attended the March of Dimes event on April 24th, a 3 mile evening walk to help give every baby a healthy start in life. It was wonderful to see such a great turnout for the event.

Florida Skin Center would like to say thank you to “Footsteps to the Future” for inviting us to speak to your girls about sun safety and skin care. Footsteps to the Future is a non-profit organization that is committed to introducing former foster youth-primarily young women-to the opportunities essential for self-sufficiency and a healthy, productive lifestyle. We feel honored that you thought of us to help educate such an amazing group of young women.
