  • Hypotrichosis

    This is a young female patient in her 20s who has a condition called hypotrichosis of the eyelashes, or thinning of her eyelashes. She wanted to know if there was something that could be done to make her lashes look fuller and to help with re-growth. She stated she was tired of getting false eyelashes and having to wear mascara daily.

    A thirteen year old female patient made her initial visit for breakouts.  She stated that they were mainly on her forehead and cheeks and over the counter products did not help as well as topical acne medications like Differin.

  • Dysplastic NevusNevus Sebaceous

    A 33 year old female patient who had never had a skin check decided to do one on her first visit to Florida Skin Center. On her examination Dr. Badia was concerned about the mole you see in the picture. Dr. Badia recommended a shave biopsy for this spot, which was done the very same day as her visit.

  • Nevus SebaceousNevus Sebaceous

    This case is from one of our pediatric patients. This was a 12 year-old male who came in because a birthmark he was born with suddenly started to grow in size. He stated it has not been bleeding or painful just changing in size over the past three weeks.

    The interesting case for this month is a follow-up on a patient we presented a couple months back with Psoriasis.  She is a 24 year-old female patient who has been getting treatments in our office for several years.

  • Keratosis Palmaris et Plantaris
    A 47 year-old woman came to our office stating that she has constant scaling on her hands and feet. This is something she said she has always had and usually just treats with over the counter lotions. However, the OTC lotions are no longer helping this condition. She also states that two of her children and her grandfather have the same thing on their palms and soles.

    PhototherapyLiquid Nitrogen is the dermatologists’ best friend. It can be used to treat many conditions from warts and skin tags to precancerous lesions. Yet to our patients the “freezing” treatments can be an uncomfortable, but sometimes necessary treatment option. However, at FSC we have an alternative treatment that can help treat these precancerous lesions without having to freeze them—Phototherapy.

  • Reticulated Papillomatosis (Gougerot-Carteaud)
    A 20 year old female patient came to our office for a rash that she has had for three years. She stated that in the past she had been given antifungal creams which have not helped. The rash only bothers her if she becomes hot and sweaty, but she does not like the way it looks.

  • PRP Treatment for hair loss
    PRP Treatment for hair lossThis patient is a 45 year old female who has been coming to our office for hair loss. A biopsy was done on one of her initial visits and it was found that she had scarring alopecia. Scarring alopecia is a form of hair loss that can be very difficult to treat and can sometimes lead to irreversible destruction of hair follicles leading to permanent hair loss.
    What are some treatment options?
  • Aquagenic Wrinkling of the Palms (AWP)

    An 18 year-old female came to our office for what she thought was reoccurring hand eczema.  She has had the condition on and off for the last four years. She stated that they do not itch, but she notices it more often after her hands have been in water.
    Can AWP be treated?

  • PseudoXanthoma Elasticum (PXE)

    A 50 year-old patient came to see us for a rash on both sides of her neck. She stated that she has had the rash for more than a year. After Dr. Badia examined the area she performed a punch biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.

  • Herpes Zoster (Shingles)

    This patient came to our office for a rash that she has had for a week. She states that the rash is itching and burns. This patient has Herpes Zoster also known to many of us as Shingles.

  • Stretch Marks

    A common concern we hear from many of our female patients is stretch marks. With so many creams on the market claiming to diminish or remove stretch marks, it can be confusing to know what works and what doesn’t.   • Tinea Versicolor

    This 49 year-old male patient came to our office for the rash above. The patient stated he has had it for the past six months and had tried over the counter fungal medications which have not helped.  He believes it is spreading.
    What does this patient have?

  • Erythema annulare centrifugum

    This is a 36 year old male who came to our office as a new patient for lesions on his right forearm and the back of his neck. He stated he had the lesions for over a year, but recently the lesions have become sore and itchy. He tried creams in the past but nothing seemed to help.

  • Melanoma

    A 73 year-old patient came in for a lesion on his back. He stated the lesion has not bled, and is not painful. He does not know how long the lesion has been on his back.

  • Berloque Dermatitis

    This patient is a 14 year-old girl who came into the office for a brownish discoloration around her neck.  She stated the discoloration had been going on for the past few months. The patient's mom stated that she is not on any medications. After examining the area, Dr. Badia asked the patient if she had been using any new perfumes. To which the patient replied that she recently had.
    How did Dr. Badia know the patient had been using a new perfume? What does this patient have?

  • Accutane

    A 17 year-old male patient has been dealing with acne for the past three years. He has tried topical and oral prescriptions and although he did see some improvement, he was still breaking out. He stated he was also concerned with the scarring left from his acne. After consulting with Dr. Badia and his family, we felt that the next best step for this patient was isotretinoin therapy, or Accutane.

  • Phytophotodermatitis

    A female patient came to our office last week for what she thought was bruising. She stated that she woke up one morning and noticed reddish brown patches all over her abdomen, which she believed was bruising. She stated it was strange because she generally does not bruise very easily and had not been doing any activities that would have caused her to bruise.

  • Psoriasis

    This 24 year-old female came to our office for red and white silver scaly plaques on her elbows. She said she has been dealing with these spots off and on her entire life. She has tried many different creams and greasy ointments, but is tired of having to constantly apply them every night. She came to see Dr. Badia to ask if there were any alternative treatments.

    A 42 year old female patient came into our office for a burn on her right leg. She stated that the burn initially occurred two months ago and she has been getting treated by another physician. She came to see Dr. Badia for a second opinion. Dr. Badia recommended that this patient have a procedure called PRP performed on the burn to help it heal naturally.

  • Lichen Striatus

    One of our pediatric patients came to our office with a rash of raised discolored bumps on her left thigh. The "bumps" did not hurt or itch. She does not have the rash anywhere else on her body.

  • Eczema Craquele

    A patient came to our office with a red, itchy rash on both her legs. She stated the rash gets worse during the colder weather and after a hot shower.

  • Lichen Planus Lichen Planus

    A 19 year old male came into our office with a complaint of a dark patch on his forehead and right cheek. He stated that the lesions were present for five months and were not painful or itching. He stated that he had not started any new medications or products.

  • Mycobacterium Marinum Infection of the Skin Mycobacterium Marinum

    A man presented to our office with a purple rash on his hand and forearm. He states that the rash is not itching or painful and no one else at home has the rash. Upon further questioning by Dr. Badia, the patient did state that the only thing he had done differently in the past few weeks was clean his fish tank.
